Caldecott Contest
Students at both Central and Western participated in a Mock Caldecott Contest! They learned that the Caldecott Medal is an award given to the illustrator of the most distinguished picture book of the year. After weeks of reading, exploring illustrations, and engaging in lively discussions, students chose their favorite books. What a great way to foster a love for both reading and art!
Central Spelling Bee
Central’s annual 3rd Grade Spelling Bee was a great success! Congratulations to Keith R., this year’s champion! Way to go, Keith, and to all the students who participated—you made us proud!
Renaissance Theater Field Trip
Central students had a fantastic time on their field trip to the Mansfield Symphony Orchestra for the "Link Up: The Orchestra Rocks" concert at the Renaissance Theater. They enjoyed the live music and discovered the power of the orchestra!
Do You Want to Build a Snowman?
Do you want to build a snowman? Mrs. Lohr’s class did a fantastic job using life-size snowmen to show their winter stories' beginning, middle, and end. Keep up the great work!
Stone Soup
Third-grade students at Central read three versions of “Stone Soup,” compared and contrasted versions, and discussed the morals of kindness, generosity, and gratitude. Then, each student brought in an ingredient, and together, they created 'stone soup' and enjoyed a delicious meal at the end of the day to celebrate Thanksgiving.
Kyland and Mrs. Galbraith
Kyland and Mrs. Galbraith had a fantastic day of learning at Central, where building strong relationships is always a top priority!
Mock Election
Mrs. Coffman’s third-grade class at Central Elementary participated in a mock election during a social studies lesson on local government. Students ran for mayor or city council, and citizens voted. Town meetings were held to determine laws, building designs, and names. It was a great hands-on experience in civic engagement, giving students a real taste of local government in action!
National STEM Day
Ms. Blackstone and Mrs. Hughes celebrated National STEM Day by giving their 2nd and 3rd graders a unique milk-tasting STEM experience! Students tasted strawberry, regular, and chocolate milk, created and analyzed data graphs, and wrote opinion paragraphs. Both classes are also part of the Adopt A Cow program, making this hands-on learning extra special!

Donated Dictionaries
Thank you, Rotary Club of Mansfield! The dictionaries you donated to several of our 3rd-grade classrooms at Central will be put to good use. Our students cannot wait to use them. Nothing is better than learning the meaning of a new word.

Book Talk
Mrs. Smith's second-grade class at Central had their first "Book Talk" with their reading partners last week, and they did amazing! These young readers are off to a great start!

Fairy Gardens
Third graders in Mrs. Hughes' class enjoyed learning outside under a shade tree. They discussed the importance of ideas and how they can change the world! Afterward, small groups met to design their fairy gardens. They are excited to watch their plants grow as they take on this responsibility.
Bubbles STEM Project
Ms. Rush's second-grade class at Central wrapped up their first week with an exciting STEM project! Students designed bubble wands and aimed to create the biggest bubble. It was a fantastic way to end the week!
Amnee Demyan 3rd Grade Music Award
Recently, we awarded the Amnee Demyan 3rd Grade Music Award to Uchenna E.! This special award, in memory of Amnee Demyan, a 3rd-grade student at Central during the 1986-1987 school year, honors a student who exemplifies good citizenship, academic excellence, and outstanding musical talent. Congratulations, Uchenna! Your hard work and dedication are truly inspiring.
3rd Annual Mock Caldecott Contest
Central Elementary had its 3rd Annual Mock Caldecott Contest! Students and teachers read and evaluated more than 20 picture books, using criteria similar to that of the Caldecott Committee of the American Library Association. Each grade level chose one book for their Mock Caldecott Medal and two Honor books. The discussions and excitement around their new favorite books were truly inspiring!
National Brush Day
On November 1st, Central Elementary School celebrated National Brush Day. National Brush Day reminds us to follow the ADA guidelines: brushing your teeth twice daily has a direct impact on cavity prevention. A HUGE THANK YOU to Dr. Drew Basinger, DDS for the generous donation of toothbrushes. We are grateful to you and your staff.
Lexington Library Visit
Our second-grade students had an amazing adventure at the Lexington Library last week! They dove into a world of books, discovering new stories and expanding their imaginations. Reading is so much fun!
