The Wild Robot

Kindergarteners at Western Elementary explored technology from the past and present while making connections to "The Wild Robot!" Students had fun learning how technology has changed over time and tying those ideas into the story. What a great way to bring literature and learning together!
Mrs. Winner's Dr. Seuss Week

During the first week of March, Mrs. Winner’s kindergarten class at Western Elementary enjoyed many “Seussical”-styled activities in celebration of Dr. Seuss Week! Students had fun participating in creative activities inspired by Dr. Seuss stories while celebrating the joy of reading.
Penguins and Polar Bears

Mrs. Noblet's class has been learning about penguins and polar bears and how their blubber helps keep them warm in freezing temperatures. To see how it works, students tried it for themselves! First, they dipped their hands into icy water, it was freezing! Then, with a layer of “blubber” protecting their hands, they were amazed at how much warmth it trapped and how little of the cold they could feel. Such a fun and memorable hands-on experiment!
100th Day Glow Party

100 days brighter! Western classrooms celebrated the 100th day of school with fun, hands-on learning activities. Mrs. Edmunds’s and Miss McGowan's classes celebrated by counting and identifying numbers to 100, completing a 100-workout challenge, reading 100 words, and more.
Donuts vs. Muffins

Donuts vs. Muffins! Kindergarten students at Western had a yummy opinion-writing showdown! Students cast their votes for the tastier treat, donuts or muffins, then wrote about their choice and celebrated with a delicious snack. We love seeing our youngest learners practice writing in such a fun and yummy way!
6-7 67th Day of School

Western Elementary had a little fun with numbers as they celebrated 6-7 on the 67th day of school! Students and staff joined in the playful countdown, making it a day full of smiles and school spirit!
World Kindness Week

In honor of World Kindness Week, our Western Elementary kindergarteners decided to focus their kindness on real-life heroes—firefighters! They spent the week creating small acts of appreciation to say “thank you” for all they do to keep our community safe.
Sharing VEX Robots

Problem-solving in kindergarten is fun! Western Elementary's young engineers worked together to drive robots, pick up blocks, and place them in the right spots, all while learning teamwork and critical thinking. A big thank-you to Mr. Dewey and the Junior High for sharing their VEX robot with us; our kinders loved it!
Decorating Coffee Sleeves

Mrs. Knapp’s class at Western has been learning all about community in their Benchmark Reading unit, and they decided to spread a little joy along the way! Students decorated coffee sleeves for Nickel and Bean, so if you stop in, keep an eye out for these sweet messages and cheerful designs made to brighten someone’s day.
Buckeye Imagination Museum Visit

Our Western Kindergarten classes had a blast visiting The Buckeye Imagination Museum! They explored hands-on exhibits, sparked their creativity, and let their imaginations run wild! From building and creating to pretending and playing, it was a day full of discovery, fun, and laughter.
Counting With Candy

Mrs. Knapp’s first-grade students at Western had a fun Friday in math! They worked on the addition skills we had been learning about! Students used M&M’s as our counters, graphed them, and got to eat the yummy treat! It was a delightful way to end the week!
Learning Math with Play-Doh

Mrs. Edmunds’ kindergarten students at Western had a blast learning math with Play-Doh and enjoying time outside at recess! Hands-on fun + playtime = the perfect way to kick off the year in kindergarten!
