The Lexington Board of Education met in regular session in the Robert H. Whitney Performing Arts Center on Tuesday, January 10, 2024. Mr. Keith Stoner, President, called the meeting to order. Roll was called by the Treasurer.

EXECUTIVE SESSION:

07-24 Motion by Mr. Schuster, seconded by Dr. Gottschling to enter into executive session to consider the appointment, and employment of a public employee or official, preparing for, conducting, or reviewing negotiations or bargaining sessions with public employees concerning their compensation or other terms and conditions of their employment.

VISITORS / COMMUNICATIONS / RECOGNITIONS

Mr. Stoner welcomed visitors to the meeting and asked if any visitors would like to be recognized. Mr. Stoner spoke of Mr. Whitney with those in attendance and discussed all that Mr. Whitney meant to the District, the community and our students. Mr. Stoner spoke of the passion and compassion that Mr. Whitney led with and noted that Mr. Whitney would want us to move forward with ensuring we are doing what is best for our students.

With that in mind, Mr. Stoner shared the process by which a replacement Board Member will be appointed, noting that interested individuals can provide their notification of interest and information to Superintendent Jeremy Secrist and Treasurer Jason Whitesel until January 22, 2024. A Special Board Meeting will be scheduled for Wednesday, January 24, 2024, for current Board members to review and discuss those individuals who have expressed interest and to select a new Board Member to serve the remainder of Mr. Whitney’s term through December 31, 2025.

FINANCIAL ITEMS

08-24 Motion by Mr. Roberts, seconded by Dr. Gottschling to approve the following financial items:

1. The minutes from the December meeting were approved.

2. The monthly financial report for December 2023 was presented.

3. Approved the fiscal year 2025 Tax Budget.

Retirement: Accepted Dianne Wheaton’s retirement request, Eastern 4th grade, at the end of the 2023-2024 school year.

Employment: Approved the employment of Kathy Gesing, as a junior high long-term sub, effective January 3, 2024 for the remainder of the 2023-2024 school year, $110.00 per day.

Salary Adjustments: Approved the following salary adjustments:

Lindsay Musille - BS to BS + 10

Jacob Brown - BS to BS + 10

Melanie Stilson - BA to BA + 10

Classified:

Resignation: Accepted Lyndsey Murfield’s resignation as educational aide at Central, effective January 3, 2024.

Employment: Approved the following for employment:

Lyndsey Murfield - Secretary at Western, effective January 3, 2024, contract for the remainder of the 2023-2024 school year and a two-year contract for the 2024-2025 and 2025-2026 school years

Certificate Section 5705.412, Ohio Revised Code It is hereby certified that the Lexington Local School District Board of Education, Richland County, Ohio, has sufficient funds to meet the contract agreement, obligation, payment or expenditure for the above, and has in effect for the remainder of the fiscal year and succeeding fiscal year the authorization to levy taxes which, when combined with the estimated revenue from all other sources available to the district at the time of certification, are sufficient to provide operating revenues necessary to enable the district to operate an adequate educational program on all days set forth in its adopted school calendar for the current fiscal year and for a number of days in the succeeding fiscal year equal to the number of day’s instruction was or is scheduled for the current fiscal year.
