VISITORS / COMMUNICATIONS / RECOGNITIONS
2020 Girls’ Division II Cross Country State Champions
The Board recognized Head Coach Denise Benson and Assistant Coach Anne Petrie and the Lexington Girls’ Cross Country Team, consisting of Joanna Halfhill, Halle Hamilton, Lily Weeks, Natalie Dininger, Karis Hunter, Emma Wise, Anna Blackstone, and Elyana Weaver, as the 2020 Girls’ Division II Cross Country State Champions. Coach Benson spoke to the Board about the difficulties of the past year and all the variables and pressure the team overcame to become the State Champions for the fourth year in a row. This State Championship represents the fifth State Title for the Lexington Girls’ Cross Country Team (2015, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020) along with a State Runner Up finish in 2016. Coach Benson was also recognized as the 2020 Ohio Girls’ Cross Country High School Coach of the Year.
2021 Boys’ Swim 200 Medley Relay State Champions
The Board recognized Head Coach Brock Spurling and Assistant Coach Pat Cannon and the Lexington Boys’ Swim 200 Medley Relay Team, consisting of Jacob Hathaway, Tanner Holmes, Ben Starling and Lucas Starling, as the 2021 State Champions as they set a new school record of 1:34:66. Coach Spurling shared with the Board highlights of the season and the growth of the swimmers that made up the State Championship team to swim the fastest time in school history. Coach Cannon shared with the Board what a great job Coach Spurling has done building the Lexington Swim Program, and provided highlights of each swimmer’s performance at the State Championships during a very exciting minute and thirty-four seconds. The relay team becomes the first male swimmers and first relay team to win a State Championship in school or county history, as well as the first ever Mansfield News Journal Swimmers of the Year, and they are also up for consideration for All-American honors dependent upon the results of the Spring swim season.
Athletic Director Jeff Eichorn shared that the All Sports Awards Night will be held on Monday, May 24th, and the State Championship Teams will receive their State Championship Rings from the Lexington Athletic Boosters that evening.
Mr. Whitney called the meeting to order.
Mr. Whitney welcomed visitors to the meeting and asked if any visitors would like to be recognized.
One visitor discussed with the Board their support for Senate Bill 1 regarding the teaching of financial literacy classes and stressed to the Board the importance of such classes to students.
Student Representative Report
Student Representative Sydnee Detlef was recognized by the Board for her service as Student Representative during the 2020-2021 school year. Mr. Whitney thanked Sydnee and presented her with her name plate as a keepsake to remember her time as the Student Representative to the Lexington Board of Education .
Sydnee introduced Evan Matney as next year’s Student Representative and provided her final update regarding various activities throughout the District, including the following: Clubs and Student Activities:
• National Honor Society – NHS Senior members have been working to meet their final hour requirements and graduation chords have been distributed during the past two weeks.
• Prom Committee – Prom Committee met every day after school for the past two weeks to set up for prom, which was held Saturday, May 15th. Prom turned out amazing and the Prom Committee did a very good job decorating. Key Club members could also receive service hours for helping set up.
• Last Day of School – The last day of school for Seniors is Friday, May 21st, and graduation practice will be held Monday, May 24th. The final day for the remaining students is Thursday, May 27th.
• Spirit Week – High School Seniors are participating in Spirit week this week, including various theme days and activities.
Athletics:
• Varsity Softball – Varsity softball’s season concluded as they lost in the first round of the playoffs to Ontario, finishing the season with a record of 19-6.
• Varsity Baseball – Varsity baseball plays their first playoff game tonight against Wapakoneta. Their current record is 9-16.
• Varsity Track – Varsity track has finished their regular season meets, and now participates in Districts tomorrow and Saturday.
• Boys’ Varsity Tennis – After today’s match, boys’ varsity tennis will move on to the match That will possibly get them into the final four for State. They play Ottawa Hills at home.
Administrator Report - Athletics:
Athletic Director Jeff Eichorn provided the Board with the many successes within the Lexington Athletics Program throughout the 2020-2021 school year, including a number of Conference Champions or Runner-Up finishes, District and Regional qualifiers and champions, and State qualifiers and champions. Mr. Eichorn also shared numbers of All Ohioans from each season and school records broken during the school year. Mr. Eichorn also shared that the All Sports Awards Program will be held on Monday, May 24th, during which 15 athletes will be recognized as continuing their athletic careers at the college level, 11 Purple Blankets will be awarded, 3 student-athletes will receive the 3x4 Award, 24 State Qualifiers will be recognized, and various other awards will be presented.
Mr. Eichorn also thanked Tricia Brown and Scott Hamilton for all of their help with the various game help that goes into hosting athletic events. Mr. Eichorn also thanked Craig Clever and his crew noting that Lexington could not hold the events without the work that they do. He also thanked Brenda Welsh and her team of drivers during an unprecedented year for doing an incredible job providing coverage for athletic trips throughout all the various changing schedules. Mr. Eichorn also shared with the Board the number of large events that we hosted here at Lexington and noted that it could not be done without all of our game help, Lexington Athletic Boosters, and our custodial staff.
Looking ahead to next school year and fall sports, Mr. Eichorn shared with the Board an update on the status of the current football scoreboard and provided pictures of a replacement scoreboard we will be looking to purchase from advertising/sponsorship funds with the Athletic Capital Fund.
The plan will be to replenish the Athletic Capital Fund through future advertising/sponsorship dollars, including 4 advertising panels that will be located on the bottom portion of the scoreboard.

2. The monthly financial report for April 2021 was presented.
3. Approved 5-year Financial Forecast for FY21 through FY25.
4. Approved the invoice from Edgenuity in the amount of $55,350 for expanded student online curriculum licenses.

Discussion Items:
1. Maintenance Building – Mr. Secrist provided the Board with an update regarding the proposed location and details of the District Maintenance Building through communications with the facilities construction team. The location will provide the best access to utilities and provide the maintenance team convenient access to the buildings and athletic fields as needs arise.
2. Health Orders – Mr. Secrist discussed the updates to State guidelines and health orders based on updated guidance from the CDC, and his recommendation for the removal of District health orders when the Governor lifts State health orders. Mr. Secrist noted that District cleaning protocols will remain in place.
