The Lexington Board of Education met in regular session in the high school library at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 18, 2017.
Mr. Robert Whitney, President, called the meeting to order. Roll was called by the Treasurer.

VISITORS / COMMUNICATIONS / RECOGNITIONS
Mr. Whitney introduced the Board, the Superintendent, the Treasurer and building principals to the visitors in attendance,
welcomed visitors to the meeting and asked if any visitors would like to be recognized.
The Board recognized the 2016-2017 retirees from the District who were in attendance, including Jim Norfleet,
after serving as a bus driver for 13 years and Margaret Martin after serving as a teacher at Western for 47 years.
The Board recognized Junior High student, Maggie, who won the Richland County, Tri-County, and Regional Spelling Bees and will be competing in the National Scripps Spelling Bee in Washington D.C., which will be televised
on ESPN May 31st and June 1st.
The Board recognized the 4th, 5th, and 6th grade Eastern Academic Challenge teams for their accomplishments and a successful season this school year, including taking 1st place at a number of competitions and having teams sweep 1st, 2nd, and 3rd at multiple competitions.
The Board recognized the Junior High Academic Challenge teams for their accomplishments and a successful seaseon this school year, including one team which palced in the top 7 at all competitions (out of approximately 35-39 teams), and another team that placed 1st in every competition they entered.
Abigail was introduced as the Student Representative for the 2017-2018 school year. Abigail was also recognized by the Board for her various art pieces, as she earned a silver key and two gold keys at the State level and also won a national award which is awarded to only the top 1% of applications in the nation.
Building principals recognized the following individuals from their buildings for their dedication and passion for our students, their willingness to go above and beyond to ensure student success, their ability to connect with students to get their best efforts, their continuous effort to ensure a positive environment for students and staff at each building.

1. The Board discussed the retire/rehire request for Diane Arnold, high school educational aide.
2. Architectural Firms - The Board discussed the results of communication with references for Then Design Architecture (TDA) and GPD Group. Reference feedback for both firms was extremely positive and a future date will be determined for additional discussion and building review with TDA.
