         Regular Meeting

The Lexington Board of Education met in regular session in the boardroom at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 15, 2015. Mr. Robert Whitney,

President, called the meeting to order. Roll was called by the Treasurer.

Mr. Whitney welcomed visitors to the meeting and asked if any visitors would  like to be recognized.

Val Fraizer, Mary Haas, & Ashley Roberts provided a presentation on Youth Art Month

and recognized the following student award winners:

Students Katie V, Ava Y, Moe N and Connor M spoke about how important Art is to them and

how it impacts their lives in a positiveway. They also shared how Art helps to show who you are

and how they use different life experiences as inspiration for their art work.

 

Student Representative, Joel Nirmalnath, provided the student report to the Board, covering athletics spring sports,

Special Olympics to behosted at the District, music concerts/competitions, spring musical, mock crash,

Pioneer awards, prom, principal recognition,high school academic awards, senior talent show, final exams and graduation.

                1. The minutes from the March regular meeting were approved.

2. The monthly financial report for March 2015 was presented.

Leave of Absence:  Approved a second year long leave of absence without pay, per the negotiated agreement for Christy Thomas,

3rd grade at Western for the 2015-2016 school year.

Maternity Leave:   Approved the following employees for maternity leave:

Jody Rutschilling - Leave chaanged to begin April 20, 2015 through the 2015-2016 school year

Athletic Department Summer Employment: Approved the employment of Ellie Guth as summer help assisting the Athletic Department.

Substitute Pay Scale:  Approved the substitute pay schedule as follows:

Substitute Teacher - $75.00 per day

Substitute Aide - $10.50 per hour

Substitute Bus Driver - $14.50 per hour

Subsitute Custodian - $13.00 per hour

Substitute Maintenance - $14.50 per hour

Substitute Cafeteria Worker - Minimum Wage

Power Reading Tutor - $23.00 per hour

Homebound/Intervention Tutor - $20.00 per hour

Recommended the continued membership in the Richland Area Chamber of Commerce for the period of May 1, 2015 through April 30, 2016 at a cost of $156.00

 Discussion:

1.  Vision Insurance - Treasurer Jason Whitesel provided an update to the District's voluntary employee sponsored vision insurance.  Enrollment occurred through the end of March and enrollment information was provided to Anthem for processing at the beginning of April. Overall interest and enrollment was strong with approximately 90 employees enrolling in the vision coverage. 

2.  Air Quality Tests - Superintendent Mike Ziegelhofer provided an update on air quality tests conducted at Eastern and Western Elementary Schools and answered questions posed by Kevin Sainiak regarding observations he noted at the schools. Mr. Sainiak also suggested communication to District parents. Visitor Dick Watters requested copies of the air quality tests results and discussed assistance offered by the Ohio Department of Health.  Mr. Ziegelhofer noted that final results would be provided once complete and received by the District.
